Nina Zolezzi NeuroLeadership Consultant Hamburg

Our brains are still running on 300,000-year-old hardware - built for connection, safety and recovery. Most workplaces were never designed with that in mind.

I offer neuroscience-based leadership consulting for teams under real pressure. I help organisations develop awareness and build the conditions - psychological safety, regulation, trust - needed for people to actually perform. Not training. Not therapy. Neuro-education built on psychology, sharpened by neuroscience, tested across thirty years running a business myself.

Together we can close that gap

Our managers are struggling. Our best people are burning out. Culture initiatives aren't landing.

As I see it, the problem is simple: we built organisations for the wrong species. This isn't a failure of strategy - it's a nervous system problem, and once we understand it, we can work with it instead of against it. My real-world experience is what lets me translate the complex neuroscience we need to fix this problem into practical tools leaders and teams can use tomorrow - not on a retreat, not in a course, but in their actual working lives.

The more human-machine collaboration defines our days, the more urgent it becomes to notice how far we've drifted from our own biological potential - quietly, familiarly, without ever deciding to. My intention is to help us become more enabled humans.

UpgradingHumans starts with waking up to that distance.

ThriveLab

ThriveLab teaches your people the science of how they actually work - and gives them tools to work with it.

Four live sessions, individually commissioned for your organisation. Each one led by Nina, grounded in neuroscience, and built around one question: why are your people struggling with their emotions, energy, relationships, or thinking under pressure - and what can understanding that actually change?

Not therapy. Not a wellness benefit. A structured educational programme that gives leaders and teams a working understanding of their own nervous systems - and what to do with that understanding in their actual working lives.

4 live online sessions - 60 to 90 minutes each - spaced over time - individually commissioned per organisation

EMOTION module icon
EMOTION
What emotions are, how they form, and how to work with them under pressure - instead of being managed by them.
HORMONES module icon
HORMONES
How dopamine, cortisol, oxytocin and serotonin shape motivation, mood and energy at work - and which conditions support or destroy them.
RELATIONSHIP module icon
RELATIONSHIP
Why nervous systems sync with each other, what psychological safety actually does biologically, and how to build teams that function under pressure.
MINDSET module icon
MINDSET
The neuroscience of how thinking patterns form, why they resist change, and how neuroplasticity makes it possible to do something about it.
Consulting

Does your organisation have the conditions human beings need to perform?

Most organisations invest heavily in individual training and barely anything in the conditions that let people actually perform. Culture is simply "the way we do things around here" - the habits, norms and rituals that build it, day by day, mostly without anyone deciding to. Left unexamined, those norms quietly ritualise disconnection - and disconnection carries a performance cost: it switches off exactly the parts of the brain creative, collaborative work depends on.

Changing that rarely needs a large budget. It needs an honest look at which norms are undermining people, and the will to redesign them.

I work at both levels - with individual leaders, and with the structures, rituals and habits that either support or undermine the nervous systems of everyone in the building.

DIAGNOSE
A structured audit of your organisation across five domains: psychological safety, stress architecture, belonging, meaning, and movement. Stakeholder interviews, a validated 20-item pulse survey, and an observational assessment. The output is a clear picture of where your culture is working with human biology - and where it is working against it.
REDESIGN
Based on the diagnostic, Nina develops concrete recommendations for structural change - team size, meeting culture, recovery rituals, feedback systems, physical environment. Not a values exercise. Specific interventions with a neuroscience rationale and measurable outcomes.
COACH
One-to-one and small-group consulting for leaders carrying real load. We work on what is actually happening in your body, your decisions, and your relationships - not on a generic competency model.
MEASURE
Before, during, and after. The NeuroFit Pulse Survey tracks change across all five domains at three points. You get an Organisational NeuroFit Index - a before/after picture you can show your board.

Your culture has a nervous system. The question is whether anyone is paying attention to it.

Nina Zolezzi delivering a workshop
Speaking

Most people meet UpgradingHumans first on a stage, or in a room.

Each talk is available as a keynote (45 to 60 min), conference talk (20 to 30 min) or lightning talk (5 to 15 min). Every workshop is scoped individually to your organisation.

Keynotes

Powerful standalone talks, available at any length. Each keynote can be delivered as a conference talk, a summit keynote, or a compact lightning format.

Workshops

Live, in the room, built for your people.

Half-day to multi-session formats, scoped individually. Every workshop is designed around the question you are actually trying to answer - not a syllabus pulled from a shelf.

Nina Zolezzi's workshop space
HALF-DAY INTENSIVE
A single focused session on one nervous system question your team needs answered.
FULL-DAY DEEP DIVE
Theory, lived practice and team protocols - built around your actual working context.
MULTI-SESSION SERIES
Spaced learning across weeks so the new patterns survive contact with real work.
OFFSITE & RETREAT
Designed environments where leaders can step out of role long enough to actually shift.

Workshop Themes

Twelve themes that can be scoped into any of the formats above. Each one is grounded in current neuroscience and built around what your people actually face at work.

01

The Stress Loop Nobody Closes: Why Burnout Is a Biology Problem, Not a Workload Problem

Why stress lingers in the body - and how teams actually close the loop.

02

Psychological Safety Is Not a Culture Initiative. It Is Neuroscience.

The biology that turns a group into a team that can think.

03

What AI Cannot Do: The Human Edge in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

The human capacities no machine will ever replicate.

04

The Chemistry of Performance: Hormones, Motivation and Energy at Work

Dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, endorphins - the chemistry of performance.

05

Trauma-Informed Leadership: What Leaders Need to Know About the Nervous System Under Threat

Read the nervous system before you read the behaviour.

06

Greater Together: The Neuroscience of Collective Intelligence

The conditions under which a group becomes smarter than its smartest member.

07

Feelings Are Data: The Neuroscience of Emotional Intelligence at Work

Emotions as predictive data, not noise to manage.

08

The Biology of Change: Why People Resist It and How to Help Them Not To

Why the brain resists change - and how to lead it anyway.

09

The Science of Becoming: Neuroplasticity, Growth Mindset and the Limits of Your Potential

The neuroscience of rewiring stuck patterns into new defaults.

10

Connection Is Productivity: The Biology of Belonging at Work

Belonging as a biological need, not a feel-good extra.

11

Upgrade Required: Building Workplaces That Work With Human Biology

Stop fixing people. Redesign the environment around their biology.

12

The Neuroscience of Trust: How Safety Creates Performance

How trust forms in the nervous system - and how to build it on purpose.

Compassion Prison Project

The work behind the work.

Since 2020, I serve as European Ambassador for the Compassion Prison Project - a global initiative bringing nervous system science, trauma literacy and human dignity into the world's prisons.

Our organisation has enjoyed the active support of many of the world's leading researchers in this field - neuroscientists, trauma clinicians and behavioural scientists whose work shapes everything I bring into the boardroom.

The same biology that breaks a person inside a cell is the biology quietly running your team meetings. Understanding one has made me sharper at the other.

This work is not what I sell. It is part of why I do everything else.
